The Villages at White Oak is a great blend of small town living and big town convenience. Located in one of the fast growing towns in Tennessee, the Villages is close to Interstate 40 and just a short drive from Memphis city limits. Yet, it is surrounded by community shops, local flavor and neighborhoods.

The Villages at White Oak is a bit of "New Urbanism", which is a development trend that began in the late 1970's and 1980's by a few disenchanted architects and planners. By the 1990's the new urbanist movement had become highly organized and unified in its approach. This trend which is essentially synonymous with the concepts entitled ''traditional neighborhood development" and "neo-traditional development" seeks to re-institute the mixed use urban development patterns that were common during the first quarter of the nineteenth century, with of course some notable improvements.

The new urbanist approach offers a viable option to the “automobile driven” suburban sprawl that we are all familiar with. In contrast, this concept strives to create a pedestrian-friendly environment on a far more human scale than the environments that characterized the predominate development techniques of the last fifty years. Accordingly, new urbanism endeavors to borrow that which has been lost from the past while adapting itself to the design advantages of the present. Perhaps above all, the new urbanist approach is an attempt to re-instill a sense of community and true social interaction between persons that reside within such rejuvenated communities.
